Spring is Here, But We’re Not in the Clear If someone tests positive for COVID-19 or is exposed to someone who has, in order to contain the spread and protect the community it’s vital to quarantine or isolate as directed. If you receive a call from the Tompkins County Health Department or Cornell Health, please answer! [Image of a cell phone ringing in student’s pocket. Image of the phone screen showing “unknown number.” A bubble pointing to the phone says, “That’s the Health Department calling!” On screen also says “Be sure to check your voicemail”]. The contact tracer will explain that you need to quarantine or isolate. [Image of student talking on the phone.] This means that you will be going to a local hotel and given a private room so that you do not interact with others while quarantining. Transportation could be provided if needed. [Image of student walking down a street with backpack and suitcase, walking to a building that says “hotel”.] Quarantine lasts for approximately 10 days, so make sure you pack everything you think you could need. Go to health.cornell.edu/pack for suggestions on what to bring. [Chart appears titled “Things to Bring for Quarantine/Isolation.” Rows below say “Personal items—Clothing- Personal Documents,” “Health-related—Medications- Toiletries,” “Academic-related—Academic materials- Electronics,” “Comfort items—Snacks- Miscellaneous.”] Cornell will pay the cost of the hotel [Image of hotel staff showing the student to their room.] and you will be provided with three meals a day. [Image of hotel dining staff knocking on hotel door and leaving a bag of food for the student.] You can order delivery if you need more food (but that cost is on you). [Image of delivery person bringing two bags of takeout to the student.] While in quarantine or isolation, someone at Cornell will contact you regularly to see how you’re doing. [Image of student talking on phone in hotel room. Bubble showing medical staff person he is speaking to pointing at the phone.] To control the spread of COVID, you won’t be able to get outside during the quarantine/isolation period, so bring nature inside. [Image of student lying in bed watching laptop. Circles on screen appear that say “Try watching videos of nature” “Take a virtual tour of a national parks” and “Listen to nature sounds.”] Take care of yourself by staying virtually connected to friends and family. [Image of student playing game on phone while talking.] Try some yoga. [Image of student doing a yoga pose on a yoga mat.] Get some rest. [Image of student sleeping in bed.] We know it’s not what you want to do, but quarantining is necessary to prevent others from getting COVID-19. Thanks for doing your part to end the spread. [Image of student exiting hotel. He raises his arms and jumps for joy several times, then begins to walk down the street.] Oh, and good news for students who have uploaded proof that they are fully vaccinated: You won’t need to quarantine following future exposures! Be sure to upload your completed vaccination card through the Daily Check site. [Image of the student at a vaccination clinic, getting vaccinated by a medical staff person. He gives a thumbs up and she claps.]
