If you answer YES to both questions above …
This medication is appropriate for you.
Take by mouth as soon as possible, following the instructions included in the box. If you have question or concerns, you can consult with a healthcare provider 24/7 by calling Cornell Health: 607-255-5155.
If you answer NO to either or both questions …
A prescription form of EC will be more effective for you:
- “Ella” prescription EC pill, or
- “Mirena” or “Paragard” intrauterine device (IUD)
These options are appropriate for those who have had unprotected sex within the last 5 days, and are of any BMI. Learn more about your prescription EC options.
How to get prescription EC (if needed)
Students can typically get an EC prescription the same business day, without an in-person appointment. (Note that IUD placement also requires an office visit, which can usually be made available within 1-2 business days.)
To get a prescription: Call Cornell Health (607-255-5155) as soon as possible during business hours and ask for an “emergency contraception consultation.”
